This week, I am extra thankful for our farm help. We have two young me from the Georgetown College Football team helping us out this summer, Bo and Alex. These guys help in so many ways around here, such as weeding, hauling hay, tilling, planting and picking. Bo even helps pack your boxes every week. They are both from Indiana and are a joy to have around. We couldn’t do it without either of them!
We have really made the most of the nicer weather this week. Everything is now planted in the main garden plot for our first round of growing. We stagger our plantings of some crops by two weeks, so that we have a steady supply all summer. The first and second batches of these crops are in. I am hoping for corn and beans by mid-July. This week, we have planted 214 tomato plants and 127 pepper plants. Hopefully all the varieties will flourish and we will have something to suit everyone’s taste. We will even have some purple ad yellow tomatoes this year. Cucumbers, Eggplants, Sweet Potatoes and Squashes are in the ground now too. I can’t wait for some fresh Yellow Squash! Bring on the heat and some slow, easy rain showers on a regular basis and we will have a bumper crop. Cross your fingers!
We are a small, sustainable, family farm in the heart of the Kentucky Bluegrass Region. Our CSA Program is very flexible and can include any combination of the following: produce, herbs, beef, pork, chicken and eggs. Deliveries are available in Lexington, Georgetown and Frankfort. Visit our website at www.TarletonTavernFarm.com or email us at TarletonTavern@aol.com for more information.

First week of pickups
After our first week of pickups, I think we have worked out most of the bugs. We have much to be thankful for this season: especially to our members, for choosing us to grow their meats and vegetables!
Our crops are growing pretty well despite the crazy amount of rain we have received. In between those rains, we have been very busy transplanting and/or seeding tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, more lettuce, beans, zucchini, squash, kale, sweet corn, and others. This week should be a better weather week for us. Bring on the sun and heat! The main garden plot will be mostly full this week and the Herb Garden is already full. I always love this time of year….so much potential. I can’t wait to see what next week will bring

Introducing the Farmers
Let me introduce you to the farmers: My husband, Philip Enlow and I are the owners of the farm. I handle most of the planning, planting, harvesting and member relations. I love to cook and love recipes that are quick, easy and healthy. I look forward to sharing some of my favorites with you. Philip works full time off the farm, but still puts in a lot of hours helping out where needed and doing lots of repairs and improvements. Stilmon is a Junior at Lexington Catholic and is my son. He is our tractor operator and jack-of-all-trades. Here at the farm, we have an assortment of dogs and cats, but the Queen Dog is Ears… a 10 lb Rat Terrier who considers herself the farm manager. She makes the rounds feeding all the animals every day and knows exactly what is going on at all times. When you visit, Ears is certain to meet you when you arrive.
